SYNOPSIS:
Daya, a gifted 16-year-old swimmer from Boston, unexpectedly finds the competition steeper in Santa Monica while competing against Team Gold Coast, a buzz-saw elite swim team, for a golden-ticket entry into the USA Swimming National Team trials. Displaced after her mother's long overdue career advancement, Daya is forced to start over and get her championship dreams back on track while piloting an entirely new life in Santa Monica.
Gaining the unexpected mentorship of Josh, a former Olympic-level swimmer who long ago traded external expectations of his talent for his unwavering pursuit to become a world-class waterman, unknowingly producing the perfect unconventional coach with the extraordinary training tactics required for Daya's shot at her Olympic dreams.
Daya is a true underdog as she battles to train, navigate a family on the brink of destruction and establish herself in a new school. Her parents' careers conspire to keep them away from home, and Daya is alone, a stranger in a strange land, contending against an entire team of elite swimmers whose relentless training keeps them razor-sharp. Josh's unorthodox training proves fortuitous as Daya strengthens her mind and body. She pushes through injuries, fierce competition, and nearly losing a friend to achieve her championship dreams while maintaining the bond that brings her fractured family back together.
